Senior Underwriter – Management Liabilities
Nexus Underwriting is looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our Management Liabilities team.
As Senior Underwriter you will operate in a highly visible role impacting the overall success of the ML team. Within this role, you will take ownership and accountability for key pieces of business, and key broker relationships.
The role will involve working within underwriting parameters and authority levels to drive existing and new broker relationships by delivering high quality account underwriting and servicing of renewal and new business.
Responsibilities
- Underwriting, pricing, and negotiating accounts consistent with the quality of the risk and according to the company’s strategy, guidelines and individual underwriting authority
- In conjunction with the Unit Head, take a lead role in identifying, finding, sourcing and marketing new business opportunities.
- Executing agreed business and action plans with brokers in terms of profitability, retention, and new business ratios
- Take responsibility and through leadership in developing a regional new broker business plan
- Taking accountability and ownership for own underwriting decisions
- Highlighting and working with underwriters on non-typical opportunities
- Developing and maintaining close and effective relationships with brokers, insurers, and clients.
- Regularly encouraging reciprocal visits from brokers and customers. Actively participating in these meetings, taking a lead role where appropriate
- Maintaining compliance with appropriate rules, legislation, underwriting agreements, legislation, and other forms of best practice
- Acting as a mentor for and providing ad hoc guidance to junior members of the team
- Refer any matter beyond the level of an individual’s experience or authority to their line manager;
- Ensure that Nexus values, code of conduct and policies are adhered to at all times both within the workplace or at other external events;
Experience
- 5+ years of underwriting experience in Management Liability, with a proven track record in managing complex risks.
- Experience working with SME and mid-market companies.
- Leadership experience or experience in mentoring and developing junior underwriters is preferred.
- Strong relationships with key brokers, with a proven ability to source new business and manage a portfolio effectively.
- Excellent understanding of Management Liabilities, including regulatory requirements and corporate governance.
- Ability to analyse financial statements and corporate structures to assess risk.
