Nexus Trade Credit is currently recruiting for a motivated graduate to join our UK Risk Underwriting team. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, assessing credit limits and monitoring exposures in all sectors both domestically and globally. As a Trainee Risk Underwriter, you will support the New Business team by reviewing credit limit requests for prospective clients and will also take ownership of a portfolio of policyholders and buyers to monitor under guidance.

Nexus Trade Credit is a specialist trade credit insurer within Nexus Group, with offices in five countries (UK, USA, Germany, France, and the Netherlands). The UK team offers credit limits on a Whole Turnover, Key Buyer, and Top Up basis.

Responsibilities:

  1. Form part of the UK risk team, assisting the new business, renewals, and claims teams.
  2. Assess credit limit requests with guidance, considering the full scope of the policy and risks related to buyers, countries, and industries.
  3. Develop risk underwriting skills to progress to individual underwriting authority.
  4. Manage a portfolio of clients, understanding their trade and that of their customers to enable accurate risk assessment.
  5. Attend meetings with policyholders, brokers, and buyers.
  6. Proactively monitor credit limits and risk strategies.
  7. Monitor industry, economic, and political trends.
  8. Liaise internally and externally about risks and policies, including with underwriters, brokers, clients, and information providers internationally.

Experience:

  • Degree-level education preferred, ideally in business, economics, or finance.
  • Enthusiastic and hardworking with a focus on excellent service.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Commercial awareness with a strategic mindset.
  • Ability to work in a team and take on new responsibilities and challenges.
  • Interest in domestic and global economic trends.
  • Proficient in MS Office.
