We work with the world’s leading cultural brands and have a deep rooted history in innovation, XR and crafted storytelling.
The Role
We are seeking a Backend Streaming Video Specialist to architect and build the video streaming infrastructure for a new XR sports and entertainment engagement product. This role focuses on developing high‑performance video delivery systems, adaptive streaming protocols, and content distribution networks that power live, fan‑facing experiences. You'll be responsible for building scalable video processing pipelines, real‑time transcoding services, and low‑latency streaming solutions that integrate seamlessly with our XR applications.
This is a real‑time, live, fan‑facing product—not content delivery. The technical infrastructure must support real‑time video streaming performance, adaptive bitrate delivery, and seamless integration with data feeds from multiple sources. You'll work closely with a technical lead and technology director to deliver robust, performant video systems that evolve from MVP through launch and live operations.
What You’ll Do:
- Design and implement scalable video streaming architecture with adaptive bitrate protocols and CDN optimization.
- Build real‑time transcoding pipelines, and low‑latency video delivery systems for live content.
- Work with other team members to build synchronisation of multiple video, audio and data streams.
- Develop video processing services that integrate with XR frontend applications and external data APIs.
- Work with the Tech Lead and Technology Director to define and then take ownership of building the overall video streaming framework, to support the full app development team from prototype through live operations.
- Support the other developers on the project with systems and tooling they require for their tasks.
- Support Tech Lead to approve PR/Merge requests from the team as/when needed.
- Work closely with other technical teams, such as the frontend application team who will deliver video and binary content to the app.
- Integrating with emerging XR SDKs, real‑time engines, and partner‑based tooling.
- Supporting the Technical Lead and Technology Director with technical documentation.
What You Will Bring:
- 8+ years backend engineering experience with 2+ years in Senior/Lead positions specializing in video streaming systems.
- Expert knowledge of video codecs (H.264, H.265), streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, WebRTC), and adaptive bitrate technologies.
- Experience building real‑time transcoding services, video processing pipelines, and low‑latency streaming solutions.
- Strong background in CDN integration, content delivery optimization, and scalable video infrastructure design.
- Understanding of video quality metrics, performance monitoring, and live streaming challenges.
- Have built or scaled real‑time systems, AR/VR/XR applications, or other immersive platforms.
- Know how to integrate and extend third‑party SDKs within live services.
- Are confident managing ambiguity, prioritizing stability, and communicating tradeoffs.
- Understand how to design for modular development and phased feature rollout.
- Are excited by the challenge of building for live, high‑emotion moments and performance under pressure.
Preferred Experience:
- AWS and open source video services (FFMPEG, MediaLive, MediaConvert, CloudFront) and cloud‑based video processing workflows.
- Experience of Dolby Atmos integration.
- Experience with live streaming, broadcast integration, and time‑sensitive video delivery systems.
- Knowledge of video analytics, quality monitoring tools, and performance optimization techniques.
- Understanding of XR/VR video requirements, 360‑degree video processing, and immersive content delivery.
- Experience with video security, DRM integration, and content protection mechanisms.
- Experience building or integrating systems for fan engagement tools, and data‑rich entertainment products.
- Collaborative experience with external platform teams or co‑development environments.
Benefits
This is a Nexus‑led role focused on backend video systems architecture, working within a highly collaborative, partner‑facing development environment. You'll help define not just what we build, but how we architect it—shaping our video streaming infrastructure, delivery optimisation strategies, and the evolution of a platform with global reach.
If you're excited about building high‑performance video streaming systems for the next generation of immersive media experiences, we'd love to talk.
