Machine Operator Level 1: Role Information
Position: EB Machine Operator
Department: Extrusion Blow Moulding Operation
Reporting to: Production Shift Leader
Shifts: 4 on 4 off (2 days, 2 nights) | Day Shift: 7 AM – 7 PM | Night Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM
Salary: Trainee: £30,000 | Level 1: £32,000 | Level 2: £34,000 | Level 3: £36,000

Objective: To efficiently operate, maintain & troubleshoot extrusion blow moulding machines and ancillary equipment. Ensuring the continuous and effective production of high quality plastic chemical containers while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Machine Operation:
§ Operate & calibrate extrusion blow moulding machines and auxiliary equipment according to standard operating procedures. Adjust extrusion rates, temperatures, timings, cutting distance, colour changes etc.
§ Monitor machine performance and product quality and make adjustments to ensure quality and efficiency during production runs. Check container dimensions, necks, weights, material distribution etc.
2. Quality Control:
§ Conduct regular quality checks on products to ensure they meet specifications and quality standards. These include bottle/container wall thickness checks, neck specification checks, contamination checks etc.
§ Identify and report any product defects or inconsistencies to supervisors and take corrective action as directed.
3. Routine Maintenance:
§ Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance on machines to ensure their optimal performance and longevity.
§ Report any malfunctions or need for more complex repairs to maintenance staff promptly.
4. Safety Compliance:
§ Adhere to all workplace safety regulations and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of machinery.
§ Participate in safety training and stay updated on best practices for machine operation and workplace safety.
5. Record Keeping:
§ Keep accurate records of production quantities, machine operation times, and any incidents or maintenance issues.
§ Document quality checks on laptop as well as any adjustments made to the machines during the shift.
6. Efficiency and Productivity:
§ Strive to meet or exceed production targets while maintaining high-quality standards.
§ Suggest ways to improve production efficiency or product quality based on hands-on experience with the machines.
7. Teamwork and Communication:
§ Communicate effectively with other team members, including sharing important information about machine performance and production issues.
§ Work collaboratively with other operators, technicians, and staff to ensure a coordinated and efficient operation.
8. Material Handling:
§ Ensure the correct raw materials are fed into the machines at the correct percentages. This includes colour changes.
§ Manage the flow of finished products from the machine to the next stage in the production process.
9. Problem Solving:
§ Identify and troubleshoot minor problems or irregularities in machine operation or product quality.
§ Escalate unresolved or significant issues to supervisors or maintenance staff promptly.
10. Continuous Learning:
§ Participate in ongoing training to improve technical skills, learn new machinery, and stay updated on best practices in extrusion blow moulding.
§ Be open to receiving feedback and applying it to improve performance.
