We are working with a specialty chemical manufacturing business operating within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. Due to continued investment and growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Maintenance Engineer with ATEX exposure and strong mechanical and electrical capability to join their site-based engineering team. This role offers the opportunity to work on equipment supporting the manufacture of materials used in pharmaceutical and advanced technology applications.

About the Role

The Maintenance Engineer will play a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of site assets. Reporting into the site maintenance function, you will support planned and reactive maintenance activities while ensuring full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance & Engineering
    • Carry out planned and reactive mechanical and electrical maintenance across production and facility equipment.
    • Perform fault-finding, repairs, servicing, and installation work to minimise downtime.
    • Support maintenance records, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • ATEX & Safety
    • Work within ATEX / potentially explosive atmospheres, ensuring strict adherence to safety procedures.
    • Complete task-based risk assessments and method statements.
    • Maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Electrical & Mechanical Duties
    • Undertake electrical tasks including wiring, fault diagnosis, and basic control systems support.
    • Use tool-craft equipment such as grinding and welding tools where required.
    • Provide hands-on support across both mechanical and electrical disciplines.
    • Work closely with production and engineering colleagues to prioritise maintenance activity.
    • Liaise with contractors and suppliers to ensure maintenance tasks are delivered safely and on schedule.
    • Build strong working relationships across the site.
    • Support ongoing reliability and improvement initiatives.
    • Assist with root cause analysis and non-routine problem solving.
    • Carry out additional duties as required to support site operations.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical and electrical maintenance experience within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with hazardous chemicals and/or ATEX-regulated environments.
  • Understanding of relevant health and safety legislation, including:
    • Explosive atmospheres (ATEX)
    • Working at height
    • Electrical experience including wiring and fault-finding.
  • Basic IT competence and ability to complete maintenance documentation.
  • Practical experience using general maintenance tools (e.g. grinding, welding).

Required Skills

  • Background in chemical, pharmaceutical, or process manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Exposure to AutoCAD.

Pay range and compensation package

Salary: Up to £50,000 (dependent on experience)
