Nexus Careers Group is recruiting an experienced HV Authorised Person Shift Leader to join the engineering team at a highly critical data centre facility in Slough. This is an excellent opportunity for an electrically biased critical-facilities engineer who is ready to lead a continental shift team while remaining technically involved in the operation and maintenance of the site. The position offers a basic salary of £57,000 per annum, together with extensive overtime opportunities and the potential to significantly increase your overall earnings.

The Role

You will be responsible for leading the engineering team during your shift and ensuring the facility’s critical electrical, mechanical and cooling infrastructure remains safe, available and fully operational. As an HV Authorised Person, you will oversee switching operations, safe systems of work and technical activities involving the site’s HV and LV electrical infrastructure. You will also coordinate planned and reactive maintenance, support incident response and act as the primary engineering escalation point during your shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, support and coordinate the site engineering team throughout each shift.
  • Act as an HV Authorised Person and manage electrical switching activities.
  • Prepare, review and implement switching schedules and safety documentation.
  • Issue and cancel permits, sanctions for test and associated electrical safety documents.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance, reactive repairs and specialist contractor activity.
  • Monitor critical plant and respond to alarms, faults and equipment failures.
  • Lead technical fault-finding and support the safe restoration of critical services.
  • Complete detailed shift handovers, logbooks, reports and maintenance records.
  • Ensure all work complies with site procedures, health and safety requirements and client standards.
  • Support emergency operating procedures and incident-management activities.

Candidate Requirements

  • Current or previous experience working as an HV Authorised Person.
  • Experience within a data centre or another critical environment, such as banking, healthcare, defence, pharmaceutical or telecommunications.
  • Strong knowledge of HV and LV electrical distribution, switchgear, transformers, generators and UPS systems.
  • Previous experience as a Shift Leader, Senior Shift Engineer or Lead Engineer.
  • Good understanding of critical cooling systems, BMS controls and associated mechanical plant.
  • Recognised electrical qualifications, ideally including the 18th Edition.
  • Confident working with permits, risk assessments, method statements and safe systems of work.
  • Able to work continental shifts covering both days and nights.

Shift Pattern

The role operates on a continental rota covering days, nights, weekends and public holidays where they fall within the scheduled shift pattern. The rota provides regular blocks of rest days, while additional overtime is frequently available for engineers who wish to increase their annual earnings.

Package
