HV Engineer (HV Authorised Person)

Location: Derby (site-based)

Salary: Up to £60,000

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00

About the Role

We’re recruiting an HV Engineer to join a leading global facilities management company on a flagship account at a world-renowned engineering and manufacturing site in Derby.

As the site’s HV Authorised Person, you’ll be responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of the high voltage network that powers a large, complex manufacturing operation. You’ll carry out switching, isolations and safety documentation, and keep the HV plant reliable so production keeps running. You’ll complete site-specific HVAP training and authorisation once you start, and there’s a clear progression route to Senior Authorised Person and Authorising Engineer. It’s a rare opportunity to build a long-term HV career on a prestigious site, with a Monday to Friday day pattern.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acting as an HV Authorised Person, carrying out HV and LV switching, isolation and earthing across the site’s distribution network
  • Writing switching programmes and issuing safety documents such as Permits to Work, Sanctions for Test and Limitations of Access
  • Carrying out PPM and inspections on HV plant, including switchgear, ring main units, transformers and substations
  • Fault-finding and responding to HV and LV faults to minimise disruption to production
  • Supporting protection testing, earthing tests and specialist contractors during planned outages
  • Planning outages with production and site teams, and keeping HV records and schematics up to date in line with the site’s electrical safety rules

Requirements

  • Current HV Authorised Person (HVAP) status (essential)
  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with HNC desirable
  • Experience operating and maintaining HV networks, ideally up to 11kV, in an industrial, manufacturing or critical environment
  • Strong knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations and safe systems of work
  • 18th Edition (desirable)
  • Willing to complete a DBS check once in the role

What’s on Offer

  • Up to £60,000 basic salary
  • Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00, with no shift work
  • Site-specific HVAP training and authorisation provided
  • Clear progression to Senior Authorised Person and Authorising Engineer
  • Permanent role on a prestigious engineering and manufacturing site
