Shift Leader - Data Centre Location: Slough or Hayes Shift Pattern: Continental Shift Pattern Employment Type: Permanent
We are recruiting for an experienced Shift Leader to join a major facilities management provider on a prestigious data centre account, with opportunities across established campuses in Slough and Hayes, so there is a choice of where you're based.
This is a key position within a critical environment, responsible for leading the shift engineering team while remaining hands-on with the operation, maintenance and reliability of complex mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
The Role
- Lead and support a team of Shift Technicians across a live data centre environment.
- Take responsibility for engineering activity during your shift and ensure site operations remain safe and resilient.
- Coordinate planned and reactive maintenance across critical M&E systems.
- Respond to plant faults, alarms and technical incidents, ensuring approriate escalation and resolution.
- Support the operation of UPS systems, generators, LV/HV distribution, switchgear, cooling systems, CRAC/CRAH units and BMS.
- Manage permits, isolations and safe systems of work.
- Ensure PPM and reactive tasks are completed accurately and within agreed timescales.
- Allocate work across the shift team and monitor engineering performance.
- Provide technical guidance and support to engineers during fault-finding and maintenance activities.
- Liaise with specialist contractors and oversee works carried out within critical areas.
- Maintain accurate engineering records, shift handovers and CAFM updates.
- Support incident response, root cause investigation and continous improvement activity.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, operational procedures and client standards.
- Maintain clear communication with site management and wider technical teams.
- Candidate Requirements
- HV/LVAP is beneficial but not required, higher salary banding is available to those that are current HVAP's.
- Level 3 qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of critical mechanical and electrical infrastructure
- Previous experience leading an engineering team.
- Confident fault-finding across building services and critical plant.
- Good understanding of permit-to-work and safe isolation procedures.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm in a high-availability environment.
