Key Responsibilities

  • You'll shape the vision, strategy, and roadmap for your own product area, making sure it links up beautifully with the wider portfolio and the team's overarching goals.
  • Take the lead on product discovery, teaming up closely with UX and engineering to build quick prototypes, proof of concepts, and lean versions to test out our ideas.
  • Take big, complex projects and break them down into smaller, high-value pieces that the engineering team can ship quickly and smoothly.
  • Run a clear, forward-looking roadmap that prioritizes the biggest opportunities while proactively keeping an eye on dependencies across different teams.
  • Keep your roadmap flexible and driven by fresh insights, regularly chatting with peers and product leaders to get feedback on new opportunities, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Be the ultimate champion and voice for your product, sharing roadmap updates, strategic goals, and wins with stakeholders all across the business.
  • Map out and manage your stakeholder network, ensuring everyone has a shared understanding of what we're building and the customer value we expect to bring.
  • Team up with analysts and stakeholders to figure out exactly how we measure success, tracking both platform health and direct impact on the customer.
  • Take full ownership of planning, running, and delivering key missions in your area, keeping things on track and making sure everything hands off smoothly.
  • Put yourself in the customer’s shoes, working across UX, data, and engineering to uncover hidden pain points and turn them into great user experiences.
  • Keep our product documentation in great shape, keep an eye on market trends, and help Senior or Group PMs out with commercial agreements and external suppliers.

Requirements

  • Experience running your own dedicated product area, with some great stories about taking an idea from initial discovery all the way to launch and user adoption.
  • A strong tactical mindset and comfort with agile ways of working, especially when it comes to cutting through complexity to deliver value iteratively.
  • A natural urge to discover and experiment, meaning you're entirely comfortable working alongside UX and engineering to test assumptions and build lean MVPs fast.
  • Great data fluency and an analytical mindset, with experience defining metrics and looking at data to understand user behavior and how our platforms are performing.
  • Top-notch communication skills, with the ability to confidently pitch your strategy, explain tough trade-offs, and clearly say why your product matters to the market.
  • Experience navigating busy stakeholder environments, building solid trust, and keeping different teams aligned around a shared vision.
  • Plenty of flexibility and focus, meaning you stay calm when things are ambiguous, juggle competing priorities well, and know how to weigh risk against business value.
  • A healthy curiosity about the wider market, competitor movements, and how business cases and ROI tie into your product decisions.
  • A deeply collaborative spirit that naturally bridges the gaps between UX, data, and engineering, keeping the customer's real-world experience at the center of every single decision.
  • Handy, but not essential: Previous experience thriving in a high-growth, fast-paced environment or deep domain knowledge within the energy sector.

How to prepare for a job interview at NextGenEnergyJobs

Understand the Product Life Cycle

As a product management candidate, we need to get our head around the complete product life cycle. Be prepared to discuss real-world examples of how you’ve managed product development from ideation to launch. Bring specific insights on tools like JIRA or Trello that can help streamline these processes.

Showcase Your Cross-Functional Skills

Product management is all about collaboration. We should be ready to highlight how we’ve worked across teams—think marketing, engineering, and design. Prepare to discuss scenarios where you had to mediate differing opinions and how you got everyone on board with a shared vision.

Prepare for Case Studies

In a full-time role, we can expect to encounter case study questions during our interviews. Practise solving hypothetical product problems on the spot, such as prioritising features for a new app or improving user engagement metrics. This will show our analytical thinking and decision-making skills.

Know Your Metrics

Let’s face it, numbers are our best friends in product management. We should prepare to discuss key performance indicators (KPIs) and how we've used analytics to inform product decisions. Dive into examples where data has driven our strategy for improvements or justified product changes.
