Are you an experienced, confident and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant ready to make a real difference in a child's education?
NextGen Teachers are recruiting for a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Behaviour Support Assistant to work in a primary school in Leeds, supporting a Year 5 pupil with ADHD, Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and behavioural difficulties.
We are looking for a strong, proactive individual who can establish clear boundaries, maintain consistent expectations and build a positive working relationship with the pupil. This role would suit someone who is confident managing challenging behaviour and understands the importance of providing structure, routine and support throughout the school day.
This is a full-time, long-term opportunity with an immediate start for the right candidate.
The Role
Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a Year 5 pupil with ADHD, SEMH and behavioural needs.
Support the pupil both inside and outside the classroom, including during transitions and less structured parts of the school day.
Set clear expectations and maintain firm, fair and consistent boundaries.
Manage challenging behaviour calmly and confidently, using appropriate de-escalation strategies.
Support emotional regulation, engagement with learning and positive social interactions.
Encourage the pupil to follow instructions, remain focused and develop greater independence.
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to implement consistent behaviour support strategies.
Help create a safe, structured and positive learning environment where the pupil can succeed.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking someone who is confident, resilient and experienced in supporting children with additional needs and challenging behaviour.
You will ideally have:
Previous experience supporting children with ADHD, SEMH needs or behavioural difficulties.
Experience working on a 1:1 basis within a primary school or similar educational setting.
Strong behaviour management skills and the confidence to establish and maintain boundaries.
The ability to remain calm, professional and consistent when faced with challenging situations.
Experience using positive behaviour support and de-escalation techniques.
A firm but fair approach, balancing clear expectations with patience, empathy and encouragement.
The confidence to challenge inappropriate behaviour appropriately while building trust and rapport.
A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and achieve their potential.
This role is particularly suited to someone who can take a confident, consistent approach to behaviour management and provide the structure and support the pupil needs to engage positively with school life.
