NextGen Teachers are currently recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate Complex Needs Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school based in the BD22 area of Keighley. This is a long-term temporary position, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of pupils with a range of complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with complex needs, including ASD, PMLD, and associated communication and sensory needs.
- Assist the class teacher in delivering highly personalised learning activities and sensory-based interventions.
- Support pupils with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, ensuring dignity and safeguarding at all times.
- Administer medication in line with school policies and training (where required).
- Use specialist equipment (e.g., hoists, feeding aids) safely and effectively following appropriate training.
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment tailored to individual needs.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, therapists, and medical professionals.
- Monitor, record, and report on student progress, behaviour, and wellbeing.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with complex needs, particularly PMLD (school, care, or support setting).
- Confidence supporting personal care and willingness to assist with medical and physical needs.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach with strong empathy.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Training in moving and handling, safeguarding, or medication administration is advantageous (or willingness to undertake training).
- The right to work in the UK.
- An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one).
- The ability to provide 24 months of professional references.
