Training and practice development officer
The Training & Practice Development Officer is responsible for delivering high-quality mandatory, statutory and specialist training to Next Gen staff and external organisations.
The role combines training delivery with regular frontline care work to ensure the trainer remains current, credible and directly connected to the people using the service.
The postholder will spend approximately 16 hours per week delivering or preparing training and 20 hours per week completing care calls, care shifts or residential support duties.
The purpose of this blended role is to ensure that training is not simply theoretical.
The trainer must understand how policies, procedures and training expectations work in real-life care settings and use this experience to improve staff knowledge, competence and practice.
Main Responsibilities
The postholder will
- Deliver mandatory, statutory and specialist training to internal and external staff.
- Prepare lesson plans, presentations, workbooks, assessments and practical exercises.
- Deliver staff induction and refresher training.
- Assess staff knowledge and practical competence where authorised.
- Maintain accurate attendance, assessment, certification and expiry records.
- Monitor mandatory training compliance and identify overdue or expiring training.
- Support staff through coaching, mentoring and practical guidance.
- Work approximately 16 hours per week within operational services.
- Complete care calls, care shifts and other appropriate frontline duties.
- Work in accordance with care plans, risk assessments and organisational policies.
- Maintain accurate care records and participate in handovers.
- Report safeguarding, medication, health and safety or practice concerns without delay.
- Observe frontline practice and identify areas where further training or coaching is required.
- Use learning from incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns, audits and practice observations to improve training.
- Support Next Gen's external training service and maintain professional relationships with client organisations.
- Keep training materials current and aligned with legislation, regulation, organisational policy and best practice.
