Industry: IT Managed Services
Our client is a well-established, fast-growing MSP delivering IT managed services, infrastructure support, and cloud solutions to a varied client base across the UK. They're looking for an IT Field Engineer to join their team on a fixed-term contract basis, with a strong likelihood of moving to a permanent position after 3 months for the right person.
The role is hands-on and varied, covering both field-based and remote support. You'll be out on-site across the UK handling installations, troubleshooting, and infrastructure work, then dropping into the service desk to pick up escalated tickets when you're not travelling. You'll also get involved in project work - migrations, deployments, upgrades, and office moves - working alongside senior engineers rather than just being handed a checklist.
Responsibilities:
- Providing on-site technical support across the UK - installs, configuration, troubleshooting
- Picking up 1st/2nd line support via phone, email and ticketing when off-site
- Supporting server infrastructure, Active Directory, and Group Policy
- Managing Microsoft 365 and Exchange environments, including MFA and security best practice
- Working across networking - TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls (FortiGate, Cisco, SonicWall, WatchGuard), wireless
- Supporting backup solutions (Azure Backup, Veeam) and virtualised environments (Hyper-V, VMware, AVD, RDS)
- Contributing to project rollouts and documentation
- Escalating and resolving more complex issues alongside senior engineers
What they're looking for:
- Minimum 3 years in a similar IT role
- Solid grounding across networking, server, endpoint, cloud, and security
- Comfortable in an MSP or customer-facing support environment
- Strong Microsoft stack experience: 365, Azure, Windows, Server OS, AD
- Exposure to firewalls, VMware/Hyper-V, and Veeam
- Clean driving licence and happy to travel to client sites across the UK
- Mac support experience is a bonus, not essential
Desirable (not dealbreakers): Microsoft Azure/365 certification, VMware VCP, Citrix.
Package:
- £35,000
- 37.5 hours/week
- Fixed-term contract with a clear intent to make permanent after 3 months, subject to performance
This suits someone who likes variety - not a desk-bound 9-to-5, and not purely field either. Good fit for an engineer who wants project exposure without giving up the technical depth of hands-on support work.
