Report To: Group IT Technical Team Leader

Salary: Up to £42,500 per annum, dependent on experience

Location: Onsite

About the Role

This is a great opportunity for a hands‑on Systems Engineer to take real ownership of the infrastructure that keeps our group running, and to help shape where it goes next. You'll be at the heart of our IT Technical Team, working across servers, networks and cloud platforms, with genuine input into the design and delivery of the projects that modernise our environment. If you enjoy variety, like solving real problems, and want to grow your career somewhere your work is visible and valued, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Systems

  • Support, maintain and continuously improve all aspects of the group's IT infrastructure, ensuring systems are reliable, secure and performing at their best.
  • Take a pivotal role in the development, execution, operation and maintenance of current and new operating systems and server environments.
  • Work with enterprise server estates, including blade systems and high‑density servers, keeping performance and resilience front of mind.
  • Manage and support core services and applications, including Active Directory, Exchange, SQL Server, Hyper‑V and Remote Desktop Services.

Networking

  • Support and enhance the group's network, working hands‑on with routers, switches, wireless and firewalls.
  • Get involved in enterprise networking initiatives, including Cisco‑based environments, to keep connectivity fast, secure and dependable.
  • Play a key part in maintaining and improving the group's unified communications infrastructure.
  • Help lead one of our most exciting technical projects: migrating the group's infrastructure to a cloud‑based environment.
  • Build and apply your knowledge of Microsoft Azure and wider cloud computing services, helping the business make the most of a modern, scalable platform.
  • Work with Microsoft platforms including Windows Server 2016 and 2019 alongside Azure, ensuring a smooth blend of on‑premises and cloud technology.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Information Security Policies, including data confidentiality and the operational security of all Information Systems used.
  • Produce, review and maintain clear documentation, policies and procedures that keep the team's knowledge sharp and audit‑ready.

Advisory & Partner Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with our Managed Service Partner to support and improve the group's infrastructure and network.
  • Act in an advisory capacity alongside other members of the IT Team, offering technical solutions to the customer's requirements and confidently setting expectations.
  • Take on ad‑hoc projects as they arise, bringing energy and adaptability to whatever the business needs next.

Project Delivery — End-to-End Exposure

This role isn't just about keeping the lights on — you'll get real, end-to-end exposure to how technical projects come to life, from first conversation through to business‑as‑usual. That means you'll be involved in:

  • Discovery & Design — working with the IT Technical Team Leader and wider team to scope requirements and design practical, scalable solutions for new systems, software and networks.
  • Implementation & Roll‑Out — getting hands‑on with build, configuration and deployment, and where necessary, project managing the roll‑out yourself.
  • Migration & Cutover — supporting major initiatives such as the move to a cloud‑based infrastructure, managing the transition with minimal disruption to the business.
  • Testing & Handover — validating that new systems work as intended and are properly documented before they go live.
  • Review & Continuous Improvement — feeding lessons learned back into how the team works, so every project makes the next one smoother.

You'll leave this role with genuine project delivery experience across the full lifecycle — not just ticket‑based support work — which is exactly the kind of grounding that sets up a strong long‑term career in IT.

What We're Looking For

We're after someone technically strong, curious, and comfortable owning problems from start to finish. You'll ideally bring:

  • A minimum of 5 years' experience working within an IT Technical Team.
  • Solid experience and knowledge of Microsoft platforms, including Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019 and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with core services and applications such as Active Directory, Exchange, SQL Server, Hyper‑V and Remote Desktop Services.
  • Good working knowledge of routers, switches, wireless networking and firewalls.
  • Familiarity with enterprise server estates, including blade systems and high‑density servers.
  • Experience with enterprise networking, including Cisco environments.
  • A working understanding of cloud computing and cloud services, and enthusiasm for developing this further.
  • A good general grasp of major networking components, network operating systems and basic computer hardware.
  • Proven, relevant experience gained in a busy, client‑focused organisation.

What You'll Bring to the Team

  • An adaptable, proactive mindset with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to plan effectively and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Resilience and resourcefulness — someone who stays calm and effective under pressure and tight timescales.
