As they continue to grow, our client is looking for an IT Field Engineer to join their team, providing hands-on technical support and helping deliver network and infrastructure projects across their customer base.

The Role

As an IT Field Engineer, you'll split your time between on-site customer visits and remote support, with a strong focus on network installations and infrastructure projects. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone who enjoys being out on the road, working directly with customers, and getting stuck into technical projects as well as day-to-day support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site and remote technical support to a portfolio of our client's customers
  • Travel to customer sites to install, configure, and maintain network equipment including routers, switches, and firewalls (primarily Cisco and Fortinet)
  • Support the delivery of network infrastructure projects, focusing on on-site installation, configuration, and handover
  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual servers
  • Provide support across Microsoft 365 and Azure environments
  • Deploy and manage Hyper-V virtual environments
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues in a timely and professional manner
  • Maintain accurate documentation of customer environments, installations, and support tickets
  • Liaise directly with customers to ensure a high standard of service and communication
  • Work closely with the wider service desk and project teams to ensure smooth project delivery and support handovers

What Our Client Is Looking For

  • Some experience in an IT support or field engineer role; MSP experience is highly desirable but not essential
  • A working knowledge of networking technologies, ideally with some exposure to Cisco and/or Fortinet routers, switches, and firewalls
  • Familiarity with Windows Server, Microsoft 365, Azure, and Hyper-V
  • Good troubleshooting skills across networks, servers, and end-user devices, with a willingness to learn and develop further
  • Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to represent the company professionally on customer sites
  • A proactive, 'can-do' attitude and willingness to travel to various customer locations
  • Well organised, with strong time management skills to balance support tickets and project work
  • Full UK driving licence required

Benefits

  • Salary £30,000 - £45,000, dependent on experience
  • Company car or pool car provided for travel requirements
  • Profit share scheme eligibility
  • Company pension scheme
  • Private healthcare
  • Flexible working schedule
  • Regular company events

How to prepare for a job interview at Nextech Group Limited

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
