The opportunity
A well-established UK organisation operating across multiple sites is seeking a senior-level IT professional to strengthen its infrastructure function. This role is suited to someone who enjoys solving complex technical issues while also contributing to wider technology improvements and transformation projects. You will take ownership of high-level support escalations and play a key role in developing, maintaining, and securing a hybrid IT environment.
The role
As part of a central IT team, you will act as the escalation point for complex technical issues and contribute to the design, delivery, and ongoing improvement of infrastructure services across the business. This is a hands-on role combining operational support with project delivery, vendor coordination, and mentoring responsibilities.
Key duties:
- Act as the highest point of technical escalation for infrastructure and systems issues
- Support and improve IT services across multiple UK locations
- Deliver and contribute to infrastructure projects such as system migrations, disaster recovery, and network upgrades
- Administer and enhance Microsoft 365 and Azure-based services
- Manage backup, recovery, and resilience solutions
- Work closely with external suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Provide guidance and knowledge sharing to junior IT team members
- Support security compliance initiatives, including access control and multi-factor authentication
- Produce and maintain technical documentation and service improvements
About you
You are an experienced infrastructure engineer who enjoys both troubleshooting and long-term technical improvement. You are comfortable working independently, communicating with non-technical stakeholders, and supporting less experienced colleagues.
Essential experience:
- Significant experience in a senior IT support or infrastructure role
- Background working within IT service management frameworks (e.g. ITIL)
- Proven experience supporting multi-site environments
Technical skills (preferred):
- Windows Server environments (2012 onwards)
- Microsoft 365 and Azure administration
- Active Directory and Entra ID
- Networking fundamentals including routing, switching, VPNs, and firewalls
- Experience with enterprise networking equipment (e.g. Cisco)
- Virtualisation platforms such as Hyper-V
- Backup and recovery platforms
- Network-attached storage solutions
