We are seeking an experienced 3rd Line Engineer to join a growing Managed Service Provider (MSP), acting as the highest technical escalation point and playing a key role in supporting and improving customer infrastructure environments. This role is ideal for a senior engineer with strong virtualisation and infrastructure experience, who enjoys complex troubleshooting, project delivery, and providing technical leadership within an MSP environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the final escalation point for complex 3rd line issues
- Own and support virtualisation platforms (VMware / Hyper-V)
- Resolve advanced infrastructure issues across Windows Server, Azure, Microsoft 365, and networking
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes
- Manage Azure infrastructure including VMs, networking, storage, and identity
- Support core services including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Lead technical input on infrastructure projects and migrations
- Mentor and provide escalation support to 1st and 2nd line engineers
- Ensure systems are secure, stable, and meeting SLA requirements
Essential Skills
- UK Driving License required for occasional client visits
- Proven experience in a 3rd Line Engineer / Senior Infrastructure Engineer role
- Strong hands-on experience with virtualisation technologies (VMware and/or Hyper-V)
- Solid expertise across Windows Server environments
- Experience supporting Azure infrastructure
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals
- Extensive experience with Active Directory
- Ability to troubleshoot complex, multi-layered infrastructure issues
- Experience working to SLAs in a customer-facing environment
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Azure AD (Entra ID), Intune, and conditional access
- Infrastructure automation and scripting (PowerShell, Terraform, Bicep, ARM)
- Backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
- Security tooling and best practices
- Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Azure, VMware, ITIL)
