Our in-house Driving Academy is committed to providing a first class training experience. Drivers are at the heart of our transport operation and providing the highest level of training and development to them is key to our continued success. The Driver Development Coach supports the Transport Management Team in ensuring that Next’s drivers maintain the highest standards of health & safety, by increasing the general awareness of road safety and focusing on reducing road traffic accidents by teaching defensive driving. The DDC will coach drivers to use fuel efficient driving techniques, in order to meet operational targets. You will ensure drivers’ licences are checked in line with Company procedures and keep up to date with workplace legislation in order to be a department expert, ensuring all training guidelines and risk assessments are in line with current legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and delivering inductions for all new permanent and agency drivers.
  • Providing ongoing training to the Driver population; this includes general driving assessments to ensure all standards are met and areas for improvement identified plus post accident training and assessment.
  • Completing all training and assessment documentation in line with Company policies and procedures.
  • Delivering CPC training to our LGV Drivers with a mixture of both online and in class sessions.
  • Supporting our Risk and Compliance Officer with reviewing store delivery points and our new Total Platform clients delivery points.
  • Adjusting your normal working hours to support the continued development of our drivers.
  • Supporting other Regional Service Centres may be required, therefore an element of travel could be expected.

About You

To succeed in the role as Driver Development Coach you should be an experienced Class 1 C+E driver and have full knowledge of tachograph and Working Time regulations. Experience of coaching and delivering training, particularly CPC is essential along with excellent communication skills and the ability to influence people in a positive manner. As a dynamic business, plans can change quickly, so the ability to adapt to situations and replan your days effectively are a benefit.
