Our client has a Global presence and has state of the art facilities located near Birmingham. Due to continued expansion they are looking to hire a Tool Room Operative to join their existing team.

The ideal candidate will have hands on experience within a busy Toolroom environment with the ability to work under pressure. The Tool Room Operative will be expected to support the day-to-day production activities in the most efficient manner, working with a team to provide both manufacture of new parts and conduct repairs and maintenance to support the various manufacturing divisions.

Person specification

  • Experienced in all aspects of press and shear tool manufacture, maintenance and fault finding
  • Experience with CNC and manual machine work including surface grinding, milling, turning, fixturing and wire EDM
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings and work to tolerances as specified
  • Well organised, multi-skilled, self-motivated, and professional
  • Good timekeeping and attendance
  • Responsible for achieving own key objectives, as well as the objectives of the team
  • Able to prioritise own workload and work to tight deadlines under pressure
  • Computer literate and able to communicate and record information effectively
  • Attention to detail; accuracy is paramount
  • Able to communicate at all levels and have a “can do” attitude
  • Willing to progress skillset on new equipment and machining methods
  • Must be eligible and able to prove that you can work in the UK, as the Company does not hold a sponsorship licence.

Tool Room Operative responsibilities

  • Operate Toolroom equipment to a high standard
  • Operate a Forklift Truck and Overhead Crane to assist with daily duties whilst also enabling tooling to be delivered to production; training will be provided
  • Ensure as part of the team, manufacture is covered in a timely manner so that try-out dates are met
  • Ensure as part of the team, breakdowns are covered in a timely manner so that production downtime is kept to a minimum
  • Aim for a “right first time” approach to all work carried out
  • Liaise with contractors/suppliers where required and when additional support is needed, inc. agreeing timescales and costs
  • Maintain awareness and ensure full compliance with Health and Safety legislation, housekeeping standards and Company rules and procedures
  • Follow verbal and written instructions and work to set out procedures
  • Seek continuous improvement related to the business KPI’s and as part of the team, contribute towards improved performance and the overall improvement of the business.

Hours of work: Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 4.00pm with half hour lunch break each day and 7.30am to 12.30pm with no lunch break on Friday of each week – 37 hours in total
