Next Generation are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer on behalf of a well-established and innovative engineering business based in Worcester. This is an exciting opportunity to join a forward-thinking Engineering team, working on high-performance dynamometer systems. The Mechanical Design Engineer will be involved with the full lifecycle mechanical design, from concept and development through to production, commissioning, and customer support.
The successful Mechanical Design Engineer will report directly to the Engineering Manager and, working closely with Production and Commissioning teams, you will be responsible for:
- Product Design & Development
- Designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies
- Translating customer requirements into practical, manufacturable solutions
- Producing and maintaining detailed technical documentation (drawings, manuals, BOMs, test procedures)
- Ensuring designs meet performance, safety, quality and regulatory standards
- Enhancing existing designs to improve performance and durability
- Resolving product and component issues across the lifecycle
- Updating and maintaining accurate technical documentation
- Developing bespoke mechanical solutions to meet customer needs
- Supporting Sales with technical input and proposal preparation
- Assisting with production builds, installation, testing and commissioning
Required Experience:
- 3-5 years experience in a mechanical engineering environment (essential)
- Strong SolidWorks CAD experience (essential)
- Experience with PLM systems (essential)
- HNC/HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Working knowledge of FEA / CFD (essential)
- Familiarity with CAM/CAE tools
- Understanding of core engineering principles (mechanics, thermodynamics, materials science etc.)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability
- Clear technical communication and report writing skills
- Experience with tools such as MATLAB, Excel or LabView would be advantageous.
