Job Type: Permanent, Full Time

About us: Next Doors Ltd is a small, established door company based in Swanley, Kent. We install, service, maintain and repair automatic and manual door systems for commercial customers across the UK.

About the role: We are looking for an experienced Automatic Door Engineer who is confident working across a range of automatic door systems and capable of carrying out installations, servicing, fault finding and repairs to a high standard. This is an experienced engineer position. You will need to be able to diagnose faults and complete work independently when required, although you will often be working alongside another engineer. We predominantly install and work with Record equipment, but our service and call-out work covers all major automatic door brands, so good multi-brand experience is important.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Service, maintenance, repairs and fault finding on automatic door systems
  • Installation and commissioning of new automatic door equipment
  • Working on both automatic sliding and automatic swing doors
  • Attending breakdowns and diagnosing faults across multiple manufacturers
  • Working predominantly with Record equipment while being confident with other major brands
  • Mechanical repairs and adjustments to both automatic and manual doors
  • Identifying faults, required parts and remedial works following site attendance
  • Completing accurate electronic job reports and communicating clearly with customers and the office
  • Working alongside another engineer on many jobs, while being capable of attending and completing suitable jobs independently
  • Occasional early starts, late finishes, longer-distance travel and overnight stays when required

As a small company, our engineers need to be versatile. You won't be restricted to one manufacturer's equipment or one particular type of job, so strong mechanical skills and experience with manual doors are particularly valuable.

What we're looking for:

  • Solid industry experience as an Automatic Door Engineer and comfortable working without constant technical supervision
  • Strong experience with automatic sliding and swing doors
  • Experience servicing, repairing and installing equipment from multiple manufacturers
  • Good knowledge of Record automatic door systems
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Good mechanical skills, including repairs and adjustments to manual doors
  • Experience with installations and commissioning
  • A good electrical and mechanical engineering background
  • Confidence dealing directly with customers on site
  • Good communication and accurate job-reporting skills
  • Full UK driving licence
  • EN 16005 qualification - strongly preferred
  • Relevant industry qualifications/cards where applicable

Previous experience working for a small door or engineering company would be particularly useful. We are a close-knit team, so flexibility and being willing to turn your hand to different types of work is important.

Location: Our base and stores are in Swanley, Kent (BR8). Although this is a field-based position, engineers collect parts and equipment from Swanley and there may be periods where you need to visit the base daily. We are therefore ideally looking for someone who lives within approximately 45-60 minutes of BR8. Our work covers a wide geographical area, so you must also be comfortable travelling further afield when required.

What we offer:

  • £45,000-£50,000 salary, depending on skills and experience
  • Overtime available and paid in addition to salary
  • Company van
  • Company debit card for authorised fuel, materials and expenses
  • Tools and equipment provided
  • Additional manufacturer and industry training where appropriate
  • 20 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Varied workload across installations, servicing, breakdowns and mechanical repairs
  • Small, experienced team
