Next Chapter Talent is partnering with a well-established and forward-thinking insurance business to recruit a Motor Underwriting Executive. This is a key hire within their underwriting function, offering exposure to bespoke and niche motor insurance schemes and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on underwriting performance.

This role sits at the heart of the underwriting operation, supporting the Head of Underwriting and underwriting team while acting as a key point of contact for Sales, Insurers, and Operations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in managing referrals, supporting underwriting decisions, and ensuring risks are assessed accurately, commercially, and in line with agreed business rules and compliance standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the first point of contact for underwriting queries from the sales floor, providing clear, timely, and commercially sound guidance.
  • Manage and respond to internal and external underwriting referrals, including insurer referrals where required.
  • Take ownership of in-house referrals from the sales team, ensuring risks are clearly presented and decisions appropriately documented.
  • Confidently present risks to bespoke underwriters and agree terms within delegated authority.
  • Maintain accurate and compliant administration and filing for insurer and product documentation.
  • Assist with the generation and analysis of scheme performance data, using internal systems to support underwriting insight.
  • Monitor underwriting performance, including insurer loss ratios, to support informed decision-making.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of company products, underwriting criteria, and external market developments that may impact underwriting outcomes.
  • Make consistent underwriting decisions in line with business rules, processes, and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with Operations to ensure all underwriting activity meets regulatory and compliance standards.
  • Represent the business in a professional and confident manner at all times.

  • Proven experience of monitoring underwriting performance, including insurer loss ratios.
  • Experience managing external insurer relationships.
  • Previous experience working with motor insurance schemes.
  • Confident supporting sales teams with underwriting queries and technical guidance.
