The role As a Safety Technician within our Transport Operations, you’ll play a vital role in keeping our people safe and our wheels turning. You are there to be the proactive voice of safety on-site, ensuring our compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations is never just a checkbox exercise, but a living part of how we work. Working closely with the Transport management teams and colleagues across the NDL network, you’ll make a real difference by identifying hazards before they become issues and providing expert guidance when incidents occur. At NEXT, we’ll set you up for success with full training on our internal Health and Safety systems, alongside ongoing support to help you develop your expertise in a fast-paced logistics environment.
What you'll take on
- Carry out regular safety inspections and audits across our work areas and equipment to identify hazards and ensure we’re meeting the highest standards.
- Lead and support investigations into vehicle collisions and personal accidents, using data to recommend practical actions that prevent them from happening again.
- Deliver engaging safety training and workshops to promote best practices and keep safety at the forefront of everyone’s mind.
- Manage essential safety documentation, including PUWER assessments and Employee Liability Claims, ensuring everything is accurate and audit-ready.
- Oversee the availability and correct use of PPE to ensure our teams are always protected.
- Collaborate with the Senior Management team to provide feedback on accident reports and advise on complex health and safety issues.
What you'll bring
- Previous administrative experience, ideally gained within a Health and Safety, Transport, or Facilities environment.
- A clear and confident communication style, with the ability to engage with colleagues at all levels of the business.
- Excellent organisational skills and a sharp eye for detail, especially when managing data and producing reports using Google Suite.
- A proactive and flexible approach, including the ability to work independently and travel across the NDL network when needed.
- The ability to stay calm and focused during busy moments, handling incident investigations with professionalism and care.
- A full UK driving licence and a strong understanding of health and safety regulations (a NEBOSH qualification or knowledge of Smith Systems would be a great bonus!).
