The role
As an Assistant Site Manager, you will be at the heart of our fast-paced Regional Service Centre, ensuring your department runs safely, effectively, and efficiently to meet our operational targets. Reporting directly to the Site Manager, you will lead a team of First Line Managers, helping them motivate their teams to ensure our customers receive their orders exactly when they expect them. At NEXT, we believe in supporting our leaders from day one; you will work closely with the Senior Management Team, the onsite Transport operation, and colleagues across the wider business, giving you the collaborative network and foundation you need to succeed and grow with us.
What you'll take on
- Lead and inspire your team: Manage, coach, and develop a team of First Line Managers, helping them drive performance and navigate complex or challenging employee situations.
- Drive operational excellence: Monitor KPIs and set achievable seasonal targets for your division, making quick, strategic decisions to keep the 24-hour operation moving smoothly.
- Champion continuous improvement: Partner with the Senior Management Team and Trade Unions to identify and implement innovative ways to improve our processes and support NEXT’s ambitious growth plans.
- Deputise for the Site Manager: Step up to lead the site as required, acting as a key point of contact and ensuring consistent management presence.
- Maintain a safe environment: Cultivate a culture of safety across your department, ensuring all operational activities comply with health and safety standards.
What you'll bring
- Proven leadership experience: A background as a Shift or Operations Manager within a busy distribution or logistics environment, with a track record of managing other managers.
- Strong people skills: The ability to handle sensitive employment issues with fairness, confidence, and empathy, while coaching your team to achieve their best.
- Decisiveness and initiative: The confidence to make quick, effective operational decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Collaborative mindset: A natural ability to build positive working relationships with internal teams, transport operations, and union representatives.
- Organisation and drive: Exceptional organisational skills combined with a self-motivated, proactive approach to hitting targets and driving change.
