About the Job

We are looking for an Assistant Buyer to support the Beauty Buyer in building, developing and trading a commercial and profitable department, representing both brand and customer requirements. You will be:

  • Demonstrating a comprehensive knowledge of brand performance, sales and profit drivers and market trends.
  • Considering best sellers, price structure and missed opportunities in conjunction with new trend and product direction, highlighting emerging opportunities within categories, pricing and existing or new brands to Buyer.
  • Working closely with the Buyer to prepare for meetings and deputising in the absence of the Buyer and work with the Merchandiser and Assistant Merchandiser to review department performance and development areas.
  • Negotiating exclusive & pre-launch product opportunities and GWP & trade driver opportunities with the brands with the support of the Buyer to maximise departmental sales, considering the customer profile when doing so.
  • Knowledgeable of all brands margins, and product lead times – continuity vs. limited editions.
  • Developing strong working relationships with new and existing brands and demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of brand performance, sales and profit drivers.
  • Working with the brands and Next team to drive traffic to site including ability to confidently nominate and create marketing plans and activity for new brand launches, optimising new product launches across all platforms including website, emails, social channels.
  • Coaching your BAA through their development programme, by identifying and setting measurable objectives and appraising them every 3 months against these goals.
  • Building and maintaining strong partnerships with Merchandising, Ecommerce, Supply Chain, Finance, Site Optimisation, Legal and the Pune Administration plus all other Buying departments within brands.

You will already be operating at Assistant Buyer level with:

  • Proven experience working in the buying department for an ecommerce beauty retailer, with a proven background in managing categories independently and delivering to critical path deadlines.
  • Clear understanding of trade reports, with the ability to independently analyse sales and make relevant product recommendations to maximise sale opportunities.
  • Strong sense of initiative, with the ability to independently prioritise individual tasks and deadlines.
  • Passionate for beauty and brands.
  • Experience managing and developing others.
  • Demonstrate behaviour that exemplifies the highest commitment to quality and service to each other, the company, suppliers and customers.
  • Demonstrate openness and flexibility, embrace change and the development.
