At Nexperia Manchester we are strengthening our Diffusion Equipment Engineering team by hiring a Senior Equipment Engineer to join our team of 100+ skilled professionals. In this role you will lead effective equipment maintenance programmes for specialist tools worth up to the value of £10m in a fast paced, high tech cleanroom environment.

What you will do

  • Working on a rotating days shift pattern with a 38% shift allowance, you will take ownership of maintaining, optimising and improving critical manufacturing equipment to ensure safe, stable and high-performance operation across the fab.
  • You will play a key role in keeping our high-volume wafer processing tools running reliably and efficiently, supporting a site that produces over 14,000 semiconductor wafers each week.
  • As a Senior Equipment Engineer, you will lead maintenance programmes, diagnose complex issues, drive improvement actions and strengthen the wider engineering team through documentation, training and expert support.
  • You will also coach junior colleagues and ensure the department remains agile and responsive to operational needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading effective equipment maintenance programmes to ensure safe and stable operation.
  • Evaluating, diagnosing and repairing complex equipment issues across high-volume wafer tools.
  • Monitoring, maintaining and optimising equipment daily to enhance performance and prevent downtime.
  • Training and mentoring less experienced engineers to support skills development across the team.
  • Developing and maintaining documentation and procedures for equipment checks and maintenance.
  • Conducting and directing equipment experiments, improvement actions and capability projects.
  • Interfacing with shift engineers to resolve challenging repair activities and technical escalations.
  • Remaining flexible and responsive to the changing needs of the department.

What you will need

Essential requirements:

  • Degree / HNC / HND or relevant qualification in a scientific or engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Senior level experience in maintaining equipment within a light engineering or robotics background.
  • Solid understanding of electronic and mechanical principles.
  • Proven fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Great communication skills, both written and verbally.
  • Established training skills and technical familiarity with product and equipment.
  • Knowledge of tool FMEA/RCA and standard quality tools i.e. 4C/8DS.
  • Ability to work a rotating days shift pattern 7am-7pm.

Desirable experience:

  • Previous exposure to specialised semiconductor equipment is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of industry experience with a proven track record of improvements within technology.
