At Nexperia Manchester, we are expanding our Applications team with the addition of a Power Electronics Application Engineer. Our Power MOSFET groups supply high-quality devices to the automotive, industrial, computing, and consumer sectors, providing advanced solutions for the electrification of the automotive industry and the high-density power requirements of AI and data centre infrastructure. We are driving efficiency and reliability in the hardware that powers the future.
Please note this role is located in Stockport on a hybrid basis and we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.
What you will do
As a Senior Power Electronics Application Engineer, you will be jointly responsible for the development of high-reliability power protection solutions for AI and data centre server racks. You will build a solid understanding of next-generation 48V power distribution architectures and partner with the data centre team to support new business development in the hyperscale computing market. Duties will include:
- Designing, debugging, and validating hot-swap protection and eFuse implementations for high-density rack systems
- Performing detailed MOSFET Safe Operating Area (SOA) characterisation and thermal validation
- Creating technical literature, demo boards, and reference models for 48V power distribution systems
- Defining new product specifications based on customer inputs and market trends
- Providing expert technical support to global sales teams and customers to resolve complex power delivery challenges
What you will need
Essential
- A Degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering, Physics, or a relevant discipline
- Passion for AI infrastructure or Data Centre power systems
- Proven expertise in circuit simulation (e.g. SIMPLIS, LTspice, PSpice etc) and PCB design
- The legal right and willingness to travel globally, occasionally on short notice to key technology hubs (e.g. USA/Asia) without significant visa processing delays
Experience of the following would be beneficial
- Power electronics: 48V distribution, OR-ing FETs, Hot-Swap controllers, and high-current MOSFET switching
- Applications: Server Power Supplies (CRPS), AI Accelerators, and high-reliability rack protection
- Advanced Simulation: FEA, SPICE modelling (device level), and thermal analysis
