A leading life sciences investment firm is looking to appoint a Head of Internal Technology & AI Strategy into its London team. The position has been created as part of a broader shift towards bringing more internal technology capability in-house, whilst also building a more thoughtful and commercially effective approach to AI across the organisation. The firm already operates in a highly modern and fast-moving environment, but recognises that the pace of change around AI, cybersecurity, infrastructure, automation, and internal systems now requires dedicated leadership internally. This is not a traditional IT support leadership role. The successful individual will operate across technology strategy, infrastructure, cybersecurity, operational improvement, and AI adoption, working closely with senior leadership and acting as a trusted advisor across the business. The role carries a high degree of visibility, autonomy, and trust.

You will take ownership of the firm’s internal technology environment and help shape how AI and modern systems are used across the organisation. Part of the remit will involve transitioning key areas away from outsourced IT support and building a stronger internal capability around infrastructure, security, systems management, and operational technology leadership. Alongside this, the business is looking for someone who can genuinely help them navigate the AI landscape. That includes understanding the strengths and limitations of different AI platforms and tools, helping teams adopt them effectively, improving workflows and reporting processes, and ensuring the business is approaching AI usage in a secure, practical, and commercially sensible way. You will work closely with leadership across the organisation and will need to be comfortable communicating with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the firm’s internal technology and infrastructure environment
  • Oversee cybersecurity, access controls, firewalls, device management, and operational resilience
  • Manage Microsoft and Apple environments across the business
  • Transition elements of the technology function from outsourced support into a more internally led model
  • Evaluate AI tools, platforms, and vendors across the market
  • Advise leadership on AI adoption, governance, and best practice
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflows, automation, reporting, and operational efficiency
  • Help establish sensible governance and security standards around AI usage
  • Partner with external vendors where appropriate whilst maintaining strong internal ownership
  • Support teams across the business with technology and AI-related initiatives

Candidate Background

The firm is open to a range of backgrounds, but the successful individual will likely come from an environment where technology and infrastructure are viewed as business-critical. This could include: Venture capital, Hedge funds, Quantitative trading firms, AI-native businesses, Technology-led organisations, High performance professional services environments.

They are looking for someone with a strong mix of:

  • Infrastructure and systems knowledge
  • Cybersecurity experience
  • Practical understanding of modern AI tools and platforms
  • Strong operational judgement
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to operate in a highly trusted environment

The role would suit somebody who enjoys operating broadly across strategy and execution, and who is comfortable building credibility with senior stakeholders.

This is a rare opportunity to join the internal team of a highly regarded investment platform in a position with genuine influence across the organisation.
