NexGen Associates is recruiting an experienced Programme Manager to join a growing consultancy delivering strategic Defence IT programmes across the UK Ministry of Defence. This is a senior, strategically focused role requiring a strong understanding of the MOD approvals and requirements process, particularly the development, scrutiny and approval of business cases for complex IT, digital and technology-enabled programmes.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior MOD, military and industry stakeholders, providing strategic programme leadership and ensuring operational and technical requirements are translated into commercially viable, evidence-based business cases and deliverable programme plans.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead the planning and delivery of strategically important Defence IT programmes.
- Develop, review and progress business cases through relevant MOD approval and assurance processes.
- Translate strategic objectives, operational needs and technical requirements into clear and achievable programme plans.
- Work with technical specialists to ensure IT solutions align with MOD operational requirements and strategic priorities.
- Engage confidently with senior MOD, military, commercial, technical and industry stakeholders.
- Provide clear advice, briefings and recommendations to senior decision-makers.
- Ensure business cases demonstrate value for money, affordability, deliverability and strategic alignment.
- Work across commercial, finance, delivery, operational and technical teams to develop well-evidenced investment proposals.
- Manage programme governance, dependencies, risks, issues, budgets and reporting.
- Support commercial planning, procurement activity, supplier engagement and technology investment decisions.
- Challenge assumptions and identify opportunities to improve programme outcomes, delivery performance and operational capability.
Essential experience:
- Significant Programme Management experience within MOD Defence IT, the wider Defence sector or a Defence consultancy.
- Proven experience delivering complex IT, digital, communications or technology-enabled programmes within Defence.
- Strong knowledge of the MOD approvals and requirements process, specifically in relation to business cases.
- Experience developing, reviewing or supporting MOD business cases and investment submissions.
- Commercial experience gained within the MOD or wider Defence environment.
- Experience working with senior stakeholders and influencing strategic decisions.
- Strong knowledge of programme governance, assurance, financial management and risk.
- The ability to communicate complex programme, technical and commercial information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience working across multidisciplinary teams, including commercial, finance, operational, delivery and IT functions.
- An understanding of Defence IT environments, technology procurement and secure programme delivery.
