NexGen Associates are currently working with an established IT Consultancy client who work within the government and defence verticals. They are now looking to take a highly skilled Delivery Data Centre Engineer to join their dynamic and progressive team.
This is a direct delivery engineer role with a focus on covering project work across network and server environments, physical DC tasks (racking, cabling, hardware swaps) and contributing to improvement of existing design documentation. The candidate will also be expected to follow, update, and expand existing work instructions for project activities (e.g. build, installation, configuration tasks) and ideally bring a broad understanding across servers and virtualisation.
Essential Technical Skills/Experience- Data Centre Operations– hardware build and installation, racking, cabling, patching, physical troubleshooting.
- Networking– hands-on experience with:
- Juniper SRX firewalls (configuration and ops).
- Cisco Firepower administration.
- Dell S-Series switches (layer 2/3 config, VLANs, port management), or the ability to adapt existing switching knowledge to different vendors.
- Linux (basic CLI, patching, troubleshooting).
- Powershell scripting (small automation tasks).
- SolarWinds, Veeam, Cisco ISE, Kemp LoadBalancers, Trellix, Dell Thin Client (beneficial but not essential).
- 2–3+ years in a hands-on DC/network role (or equivalent).
- Exposure to both physical DC operations and enterprise networking.
- Comfortable in mixed vendor environments and adapting quickly.
- Strong project delivery mindset; proactive in finding and resolving issues.
- Comfortable with physical DC work as well as logical/network tasks.
- Willingness to learn beyond core skillset (server/virtualisation exposure).
- Hands-on, practical, adaptable, and team focused.
- Formal degree not required; demonstrable hands-on skills and operational track record more important.
