Job purpose: This role has been created for the purpose of supporting the General Counsel in the development and implementation of nexfibre’s regulatory and compliance strategy and activities. Operating within a small team, this individual will work across a variety of areas and will have significant responsibility for business critical projects such as the Telecoms Access Review, as well as regular engagement with Ofcom, DSIT, BDUK and industry trade associations.
In the short term this role will help develop the relevant compliance and security policies for nexfibre and will be instrumental in ensuring the maintenance and management of these policies going forward.
In this role you will:
- Work in a high growth, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment, focused on the highest standards of implementation and delivery.
- Work closely with the team and partner with technical and operational business teams as well as with external collaborators and advisers.
- Act as a key member of the nexfibre business, staying up to date with regulatory and compliance developments and trends and fostering excellence and best practice.
- Serve as a trusted partner, providing strategic, actionable guidance and regulatory advice to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on relevant regulatory aspects of the business (including the Communications Act and Telecoms Security Act).
- Oversee and ensure compliance with telecoms regulations and industry standards and certifications.
- Collaborate with other colleagues on regulatory engagement strategy and contribute to the development of company policy on regulatory matters.
- Lead or support internal and external regulatory meetings.
- Manage responses to regulatory communications, government enquiries and consultations, particularly with respect to Ofcom, DSIT and BDUK.
- Assist in the creation of relevant compliance policies, for example in relation to telecoms security, and then oversee the continuation of such policies.
- Promote awareness and training on the required requirements and expectations.
Knowledge & experience:
- Degree level education / relevant professional qualifications.
- Deep understanding of UK telecoms law and regulation is critical. In-house or consultant or law firm experience advising in the telecoms industry.
- Experience of managing regulatory compliance.
- Excellent communication and project management skills.
- Solutions orientated and able to simplify complex matters.
- Self-sufficient, happy working autonomously as well as in cross-functional teams; acts as business adviser to management.
- Ability to multitask and to work calmly and quickly under pressure; high energy levels and strong work ethic.
- Strong moral/ethical convictions.
