Located in Norway, France, UK and US, the team consists of more than 60 highly competent and diverse members. Due to the unique engineering skills of our team, we are able to plan and execute marine and land cable installation projects anywhere in the world. We are able to overcome environmental constraints and client requirements with our unique engineering expertise. This time our team is expanding, so we are looking for a new colleague. The workplace is in Edinburgh, UK (remote working likely), and you will be reporting to the Team Lead – Survey.

To succeed as the Specialist Engineer-Survey, you need experience in the survey, energy, maritime, offshore, oil & gas or marine construction fields. The statement of works of our projects will require you to have knowledge in geophysical and geotechnical surveys, remotely operated vehicles (ROV) and survey equipment.

It is expected that you will have a good knowledge and network within the offshore survey industry, that will be utilized to keep Nexans in front when it comes to technology and methods with the survey discipline.

Working closely with subcontractors, you will first evaluate survey proposals and then specify survey equipment/personnel needed for our own installation vessels and subcontracted vessels. This will be based on project requirements and frame agreements with the survey and ROV subcontractors.

You will provide survey input to procedures, plans, analyses, calculations and other documentation. You will be an active participant in developing technical solutions and methods related to the survey aspect of marine cable laying and subsea cable protection in collaboration with other Marine disciplines. On top of that, you will participate in QA and HSE activities internally in the department and in projects.

Preferable BSc or MSc degree in the area of Hydrographic surveying, Geophysics, Geology, Geomatics or similar. Long experience can substitute formal education. Over 10 years of relevant experience from offshore or subsea operations. Typical background as a project surveyor, party chief, survey manager & online surveyor.

Advantageous knowledge for your role, but not a requirement:

  • Software: EIVA suite, Kingdom or SonarWiz, ArcGIS / QGIS
  • Operations: Route surveys, UXO, MBES, SBP & SSS in particular.
  • Cable laying operations
  • Subsea cable protection (Jetting, Trenching, SRI etc)

In this role the likelihood of succeeding will increase if you are used to working in a structured and accurate way when writing technical documentation/procedures. Nexans works in teams based on project execution, so being self-driven and being able to take charge of one's own tasks are of the utmost importance. Fluent in English – oral and written. Norwegian is a plus.

Your personal values are aligned with those of Nexans: Pioneer, Dedicated, United.

At Nexans, purpose, excellence and people drive us. We electrify the future responsibly, with strong commitments to sustainability, innovation and inclusion. Empowering every employee to grow, contribute and create lasting impact worldwide. Join us in shaping a better tomorrow.
