Newton Colmore is working with a life sciences company in Cambridgeshire and we are searching for an experienced CAD engineer to join their design team. You will be joining a team of experts to drive innovation through iterative design, on next generation life science instrumentation. The company are working on life improving technology that combines engineering, science, and automation. As a Senior CAD Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in the design and development of precision‑engineered components and intricate systems. You will be taking your designs through the entire design process, from initial design, to testing, and readying the component for manufacture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex mechanical components using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and quality assurance.
  • Create and manage detailed 3D models, assemblies, and technical drawings.
  • Support prototype development and testing, ensuring designs meet regulatory and performance standards.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven experience in CAD design within a regulated industry, ideally medical devices or biotechnology, but open to other industries too.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturability.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 or other relevant quality standards is a plus.
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline and strong fundamentals.
