Newton British Academy – Barwa City is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, dedicated and experienced EAL (English as an Additional Language) Secondary Teacher to join our successful and growing team. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding practitioner who is passionate about supporting multilingual learners and ensuring that all students can access the curriculum and achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality EAL support and intervention programmes for secondary students.
  • Assess students' English language proficiency and identify individual learning needs.
  • Plan and deliver engaging lessons that develop students’ speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
  • Support students in accessing the mainstream curriculum across a range of subjects.
  • Work collaboratively with subject teachers, pastoral staff and parents to ensure student success.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Contribute to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities, events and school initiatives.
  • Promote inclusion, wellbeing and high expectations for all learners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English, Applied Linguistics, Education or a related field.
  • Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, BEd, QTS or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching EAL students within a secondary school setting.
  • Strong understanding of language acquisition and effective EAL teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse international environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable

  • Experience working within the British Curriculum.
  • Previous experience in an international school setting.
  • Experience supporting students with varying levels of English proficiency across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.
