As an Engineering Manager at NewStore, you will lead a high-impact engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and collaboration. Your role extends beyond project execution - you’ll shape engineering strategy, mentor talent, and ensure long-term technical sustainability while driving the growth of our industry-leading, Omni-Channel Point of Sale platform. You’ll lead a team of 4-8 engineers crafting solutions that empower retail brands to deliver exceptional shopping experiences across every channel, working closely with Product and Design as a triad against a common set of outcomes.

You help shape the architecture of a modern, scalable commerce platform while building the team that makes it happen. If you thrive on building self-managed, high-performing teams, holding a high bar for quality, and growing engineers into the best version of themselves, this role is for you. Own the delivery, health and production stability of one engineering team, holding it accountable for results while building a culture people are proud of.

Reshape engineering excellence: You understand pairing, TDD, contract and end-to-end testing, and continuous delivery, and how AI is changing or fits alongside these. You foster a culture of quality regardless of how the code was generated, and when possible you join the pairing sessions yourself.

Complexity management: DevOps mindset: Take full ownership of your team’s solutions, from strategic design to deployment and monitoring. All our managers stay technically current and can express it through code or architectural design when needed.

A Day in Your World: Morning standup with your team, a design review with your senior engineers, roadmap planning with your product partner, a pairing session on a tricky change, a coaching 1:1, and solving problems that impact retail brands worldwide. No two days are the same when you’re building the future of commerce.

Your Story: Are you an engineering leader with a passion for building exceptional teams and holding a high bar for quality? Do you thrive in environments where you can grow engineers, own production, and keep a team fast without cutting corners? If so, then this Engineering Manager role is the perfect opportunity for you!

  • 8+ years of software development with 3+ years managing an engineering team.
  • Strong background in modern software development practices, cloud platforms (preferably AWS), and distributed systems architecture.
  • Proven track record hiring strong engineers quickly and coaching them, with honest feedback as the basis for growth.
  • Agile/XP knowledge: Understanding of agile methodologies, including eXtreme Programming, TDD, and continuous delivery practices.
  • AI-era engineering judgment: You’ve led a team through adopting AI coding tools and can say concretely what it changed in throughput, quality, tech health and cost.
  • Coaching: Natural ability to mentor engineers and build a self-managed team that owns decisions within clear guardrails.

This is just a glimpse into what it means to be an Engineering Manager at NewStore. If you’re ready to elevate your leadership impact and help shape the future of retail technology, we want to hear from you!

How to prepare for a job interview at NewStore

✨Brush Up on Your Coding Skills

For a full-time software engineering role, it's crucial that we stay sharp with our coding abilities. Expect technical questions that might involve solving problems on the spot or discussing algorithms. Practise on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank to get comfortable with the types of questions that often come up.

✨Know Your Tools and Frameworks

Make sure we’re well-acquainted with the tools and technologies listed in the job description. Familiarise ourselves with any specific frameworks or programming languages mentioned.
