A well established facilities management group is seeking an experienced Hard Services Director to lead its engineering and building services function. This role oversees the delivery of mechanical, electrical, HVAC and fabric services across a multi-site portfolio, ensuring high standards, strong compliance and reliable service performance.
The Role:
- You will provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership across all technical operations, managing multi-site teams, shaping processes and driving commercial performance. With full financial responsibility, you’ll champion operational excellence, client satisfaction and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commercial & Financial Oversight: Lead the financial performance of the technical division, ensuring budgets and targets are achieved. Control costs, support bids and provide commercial insight for new opportunities. Monitor contract performance and maintain healthy margins.
- Operational Leadership: Oversee maintenance programmes and reactive engineering activities. Ensure services meet agreed performance levels and regulatory standards. Strengthen processes, quality checks and asset management practices. Provide clear operational reporting for internal and client use.
- People Leadership: Lead and develop engineering teams across multiple sites. Set clear expectations and maintain a high-performance culture. Support skills development and succession planning.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure all engineering work meets statutory, technical and safety requirements. Oversee audits, inspections and risk assessments. Promote a strong culture of safety and compliance.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the senior technical contact for clients. Attend review meetings, offer guidance and manage escalations effectively.
- Collaboration & Continuous Improvement: Work closely with other service areas to deliver integrated solutions. Contribute to wider business strategy and lead improvement initiatives.
Candidate Profile:
- Experienced senior leader with a strong background in Hard Services, Facilities Management and related technical service environments.
- Proven track record of leading complex, multi-site operations with full accountability for P&L performance, service delivery and business growth.
- A proactive and commercially minded professional with extensive experience gained within established service providers, bringing the leadership capability and sector expertise required for the role.
- Strong technical knowledge with a thorough understanding of engineering standards, statutory obligations, health and safety requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Accomplished people manager with a history of leading large, diverse teams, fostering high performance and delivering exceptional client service.
- Commercially astute, with a proven ability to improve operational efficiency, enhance profitability and maintain high standards of quality and compliance.
- Credible communicator and relationship builder, capable of influencing stakeholders at board, client and operational levels.
- Based within easy commuting distance of London and the Home Counties, with the flexibility to work a hybrid pattern of three office days and two remote days per week.
