The Wiltshire Times, Wiltshire Gazette and Herald and the Swindon Advertiser websites and respective newspapers are seeking a talented digital journalist to help lead their fantastic team of reporters. We are looking for someone who is brimming with ideas, enthusiastic and has a sharp news sense, alongside experience in digital newsrooms.

This is a pivotal leadership role focused on growing digital audiences, improving engagement and maximising the performance of our journalism across web, social and newsletters. Working closely with the editor and newsroom team, you will be responsible for driving digital strategy, coaching reporters and ensuring our content is optimised to reach, retain and convert audiences. You will play a key role in delivering audience growth, increasing loyalty and subscriptions, and ensuring our content is consistently high-performing and digitally focused. This role requires occasional weekend work and is based at our modern Swindon office, with the option for flexible working from home up for discussion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the digital strategy across our titles, focusing on audience growth, engagement and subscriber conversion
  • Manage and develop reporters to produce high-impact, digital-first content
  • Use data and analytics to identify opportunities and improve story performance
  • Drive best practice in SEO, headline writing and story presentation
  • Oversee and grow newsletter strategy, increasing sign‑ups and engagement
  • Maximise use of social media platforms to drive reach and audience interaction
  • Work with specialist reporters (AI, SEO, etc.) to scale content and output
  • Champion innovative content formats, including video, galleries and explainers
  • Develop loyalty content strategies, including nostalgia, community contributions and reader interaction
  • Ensure strong content planning and daily execution across all platforms
