We’re looking for a creative, data-driven Audience & Social Media Assistant to join our newsroom team. This role will focus on growing and engaging audiences across platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and Threads. You’ll combine editorial judgment with hands-on skills in filming, editing, and packaging video for social media, while also delivering insightful analytics reports that shape our content and growth strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Social Media Strategy & Execution
- Manage day-to-day publishing across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp Channels, and Threads.
- Tailor content for each platform, with a focus on short-form video.
- Experiment with emerging formats, features, and trends to maximise reach and engagement.
- Content Creation & Video Production
- Shoot, edit, and produce video tailored for social-first audiences.
- Create compelling social headlines, captions, and thumbnails to drive clicks and shares.
- Work closely with reporters and editors to package stories for digital platforms.
- Audience Growth & Engagement
- Develop tactics to increase referrals and followers across platforms.
- Engage with audiences in-platform, building loyalty and community.
- Data Insights & Reporting
- Track performance of social content using platform analytics and third-party tools.
- Create regular reports and presentations (slides, dashboards) highlighting trends, wins, and areas for improvement.
- Provide actionable insights that inform newsroom editorial decisions.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Proven experience managing social media platforms
- Strong video skills: shooting, editing (CapCut, Edits or similar) and storytelling.
- A track record of growing audiences and driving referrals on social platforms.
- Familiarity with analytics tools (Meta Business Suite, TikTok analytics, Google Analytics, etc.).
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with sharp attention to tone and accuracy.
- Ability to balance creativity with data-driven decision-making.
- Highly organised, adaptable, and collaborative.
