An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious News Reporter to join our high-performing newsroom. Based in the beautiful cathedral city of Worcester, plenty is going on to keep our journalists busy. Our reporters spend as much time as possible out and about reporting on breaking news and the issues that matter most to our readers. Working as part of a supportive and driven team, you will help deliver digital-first journalism across our websites and social platforms, playing a key role in ensuring we tell the stories that matter most to our communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Source, research and write engaging news stories across a wide range of topics.
- Cover breaking news, court cases, community events and local issues.
- Build and maintain contacts across the patch.
- Produce accurate, legally sound and compelling content to tight deadlines.
- Create digital-first content using video, photography and social media where appropriate.
- Help drive audience growth through engaging storytelling and innovative content approaches.
- Represent the publication professionally within the local community.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- NCTJ or equivalent Journalism Qualification is required.
- Applications are welcomed from trainee, newly qualified and experienced reporters.
- Strong news sense with the ability to identify stories that resonate with local audiences.
- Excellent writing, communication and interviewing skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
- Strong digital and social media skills.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are essential.
This role is office-based in Worcester and will require some weekend and evening/early morning work on a rota basis.
