Newsquest Weymouth is part of the UK’s largest regional newspaper publisher, with an expanding portfolio of newspapers, websites and magazines. We are recruiting for a Platemaking Support Technician to join our production team at the Weymouth Print Centre. This is a hands‑on production role, offering an excellent opportunity to learn new skills in a busy, fast‑moving environment and to become a valued member of a positive and supportive team. The role involves working flexibly across the Platemaking, Press and Mailroom departments to support the production of newspapers. Full training will be provided for the successful candidate. This role follows a fixed weekly shift pattern, with no weekend working.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing the production workflow within the plate room
- Plating and de‑plating the press
- Supporting press operations as required
- Assisting the Mailroom team during peak production periods
- Working flexibly across departments to meet production deadlines
- Contributing positively as part of a team‑focused production environment
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Previous experience in the print industry, either in pre‑press or printing, is desirable but not essential
- A good mechanical and technical aptitude, with a willingness to learn new skills
- Experience working in a CTP (Computer‑to‑Plate) environment would be an advantage, but full training will be provided
- A positive, flexible and team‑focused approach
- Able to undertake a role involving a high degree of physical activity, with a reasonable level of fitness required
