The Bournemouth Echo is seeking a dynamic and dedicated senior reporter to join our vibrant team. Key Responsibilities

  • Generating stories: Develop and pitch original story ideas that resonate with our readers and reflect the diverse interests of the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole areas.
  • Reporting: Conduct thorough research, interviews, and investigations to produce accurate, balanced, and compelling news stories.
  • Writing: Write clear, concise, and engaging articles for both print and digital platforms, adhering to our editorial standards and deadlines.
  • Multimedia Content: Utilise your multimedia skills to create and edit video content, enhancing the storytelling experience for our audience.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local contacts, sources, and community leaders to stay informed about important issues and events.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with editors, photographers, and other reporters to ensure comprehensive coverage of news stories.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on industry trends and best practices, continuously improving your journalism skills and knowledge.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

  • Senior qualification, including 100wpm shorthand
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong attention to detail
  • A strong understanding of journalistic principles and practices
  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant media law and adherence to the Editors’ Code of Conduct
