We are looking for a dynamic digital native with a good eye for the stories that will appeal to our readers and matter to our communities. You will be a journalist passionate about digital storytelling — whether that is breaking news, stories sourced from your own contacts or articles part of a wider issue. You’ll be expected to use a range of digital tools and platforms to tell stories, including video, audio, infographics and maps. You’ll also use AI to move fast and scale output – but your judgement will remain the driving force. We want someone who understands how to use technology to enhance – not replace – their news sense. Your attention to detail must be second to none, with the ability to write quickly, accurately and succinctly. Our online audience has a huge appetite, and you will be confident in offering up lots of ideas and stories that keep our readership coming back for more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build our digital audience following to bring our content to even more people in the community
  • Use search tools to research and understand the topics people are searching for
  • Use your SEO skills to reach the largest possible audience
  • Build communities online and in real life with whom to share your stories once published
  • Cover breaking news, local news and features
  • With guidance from editors, use analytics to identify what our readers like and what they want next from our coverage

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Know what readers want to read, using both your keen news sense and data insights
  • Understand search engine optimisation (SEO) and experience in producing content that works in search
  • Passion for telling stories that will grow new, diverse audiences
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • The ability to write – and think – quickly under pressure
  • Excellent social media skills and the ability to spot stories and trending topics
  • Hold the NCTJ qualification and ideally have 100wpm shorthand
  • Excellent knowledge of relevant media law

Hours will include shifts and weekends. To be considered, please send your CV.

Benefits

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays + your birthday off
  • Holiday buy scheme for extra flexibility
  • Structured career progression
