About the Role

Are you eager to build a career in Data Protection and Privacy? Newsquest is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our Privacy Team as a Data Protection and Privacy Analyst. No prior experience with UK GDPR is necessary, but preferred. We are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual with a passion for learning and a keen eye for detail. Full training and on-the-job support will be provided. As part of our team, you’ll play a key role in managing Subject Access Requests (SARs) and providing vital support to our Data Protection and Privacy Manager within the Gannett Privacy Office (GPO).

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing the SAR process efficiently, ensuring requests are processed accurately and within regulatory deadlines.
  • Responding to privacy-related requests, complaints, and queries, ensuring they are addressed or assigned to the appropriate person or team.
  • Supporting the escalation process for data breaches and cybersecurity incidents.
  • Assisting with Privacy Threshold Assessments (PTAs) and Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs).
  • Helping develop and maintain awareness and training programs on data protection, including content on the Data Protection SharePoint site.
  • Cataloguing and reviewing Records of Processing Activities (RoPA).

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

We’re seeking a self-starter who thrives on attention to detail and meeting deadlines. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Strong analytical skills and excellent written communication.
  • The ability to evaluate and process requests with care and precision.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 applications (an advantage).
  • Previous experience in customer service or complaints handling (beneficial but not essential; training will be provided).
  • Education: A-levels or higher, or relevant equivalent work-based experience.
