The South Wales Guardian, a trusted voice for the communities it serves since 1955, is looking for a motivated and community‑minded Part‑Time Reporter to join our team on an initial three‑month term. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to a well‑established local news brand that champions the people, places and stories of the Amman, Gwendraeth, Towy and Swansea valleys. You’ll be helping us maintain the strong, high‑quality journalism our audiences value, while supporting our digital growth across online and social platforms. Working 8 hours per week, you will help us uncover and report the stories that matter most to our readers — from local events to human‑interest features and community campaigns. You should be comfortable embracing digital tools, using social media to spot stories, and engaging with our readers online.

Key Responsibilities

  • Finding and producing stories for the South Wales Guardian’s digital and print platforms.
  • Building relationships with local people, organisations and community groups.
  • Covering a mix of news, features and lighter community content.
  • Contributing to the Guardian’s mission of informing, representing and celebrating its readership.

  • Digitally confident, able to produce clean, accurate copy for online platforms, and willing to learn live reporting techniques where needed.
  • Engaged with social media, using it to identify news, build relationships and understand what matters to our audience.
  • Organised and self‑motivated, able to manage your time effectively within a small weekly schedule.

The role will be primarily home‑based, with work taking place remotely across the South Wales Guardian’s core patch of Ammanford and the surrounding areas. You will be expected to attend community events or meet contacts in person when required. Although the role is remote, you will have access to an office base in either Haverfordwest or Newport. Initial training will take place in one of these offices.
