About RoleThe Radiation Protection Adviser (RPA) will play a critical role in supporting major national and international science programmes by ensuring the highest standards of radiation safety and environmental protection. You will work closely with scientists, engineers, and safety professionals and will be directly involved in the planning, development, and operation of advanced scientific facilities.

Responsibilities- Provide organisation-wide leadership on radiation safety policy, standards, and governance
- Act as appointed RPA (and RWA where relevant) under IRR17 and Environmental Permitting Regulations
- Lead engagement with UK regulators and manage regulatory inspections and compliance reporting
- Conduct audits, inspections, and reviews of radiation safety arrangements and issue formal reports
- Interpret radiation monitoring, dosimetry, and modelling data to support risk assessments and controls
- Advise on the design, shielding, commissioning, and modification of radiation facilities
- Review personal dosimetry and environmental monitoring programmes and equipment selection
- Investigate radiation incidents and lead preventative and corrective action programmes
- Develop and deliver radiation protection training and awareness programmes
- Provide mentoring, technical guidance, and regular reporting to safety committees
- Degree in a relevant scientific or technical discipline or equivalent professional experience
- RPA 2000 Certificate of Competence or the ability to submit the first portfolio within 12 months
- Strong practical experience applying IRR17, EPR, and radiation safety regulations
- Experience with radiation monitoring equipment, dosimetry, and dose control systems
- Ability to work independently and within a small specialist advisory team
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Good IT skills and professional reporting capability
- Willingness to relocate to the UK and work under Skilled Worker visa sponsorship
