Job title: Engagement Editor (Newsletters)

Department: Audience Team, The Sun

The Sun is Britain’s biggest-selling newspaper and largest mobile news brand – and still growing – with a talented, diverse team who publish the best news, sport, showbiz and lifestyle coverage in the business across print and digital.

Purpose of role:

We are looking for a creative, flexible and highly motivated individual to join our award-winning Audience team.

The Engagement Editor role combines a variety of editorial, creative and administrative tasks, all with reader engagement at heart.

On a day-to-day basis you’ll be expected to create engaging polls to canvas opinions across a broad range of subjects, from hard news and money matters, to popular TV shows such as I’m A Celebrity. Our users love telling us what they think – and across the business we use the insights to better understand our audience and meet their needs.

Beyond polls you will also be expected to support the curation of tailored editorial newsletters around our readers’ interests. You will need to be confident curating and editing high-quality content at speed, relying on your digital and analytical skills to lead your content decisions. You will also need to build strong relationships across the newsroom as newsletters support a variety of section deskheads.

Key accountabilities:

  1. Create and publish relevant polls across all sections of The Sun online, increasing engagement levels
  2. Support the curation and distribution of editorial newsletters
  3. Support sponsored editorial campaigns, ensuring engagement targets are met
  4. Liaise with Commercial Insights Manager and other sales staff as required
  5. Manage competitions in conjunction with editorial, marketing and other departments
  6. Mix of remote working and office-based
  7. Regular evening and weekend work required

Key skills and experience

  1. An understanding of The Sun brand, audience and editorial tone of voice
  2. A broad range of interests, from daily politics to Love Island and everything in between
  3. The ability to write concise, accurate and engaging copy
  4. Unflappable under pressure
  5. Exemplary attention to detail
  6. A willingness to take on any task, and initiative and adaptability in order to meet targets
  7. Knowledge of the IPSO Code of Conduct, media law and ethical considerations
  8. Although not essential, an interest in football would be advantageous

If you believe you have the skills and passion to succeed, even if you don’t meet every requirement on the list, we encourage you to apply. We value potential just as much as experience and are eager to hear from individuals who are enthusiastic about learning and growing with us.

At News UK, we know the value of working together, which is why we operate a hybrid working policy with a minimum of three days a week in the office. Being in the office allows us to collaborate, innovate, and thrive as a team in our vibrant and dynamic workspace.
