The Times is seeking a Saturday news editor to join our newsroom.

**The role** reports into the Associate Editor and Head of News and takes responsibility for the home news agenda for the Saturday edition. It involves creative commissioning, pitching to the editor and a digital-first mindset.

You must have newsroom experience as a news editor or senior reporter and know how to meet tight deadlines under pressure. You will have a passion for news and the skill to spot stories others miss.

**Responsibilities**

● Successfully manage productive relationships with the newsdesk and journalists

across the newsroom

● Work with editors and reporters to conceive, commission and edit exclusive agenda-

setting news stories and projects

● Use data to help guide commissioning and construct headlines

● Understand the distinctive opportunities of digital journalism

● Present the Saturday news list to the editor

● Represent The Times on radio and TV especially on Times Radio

**Skills and experience**

● Experience working as a news editor or senior reporter for a national newspaper or

major news organisation

● Demonstrable expertise in news and current affairs

● An ability to work under pressure, to tight deadlines and with rigorous accuracy

● Persuasive presentation skills, well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to

problem-solve and negotiate positive outcomes

● Able to communicate succinctly and effectively

● A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
