The Team: The Sun is the biggest news brand in the UK – and still growing – with a talented, diverse team which publishes the best news, sport, lifestyle and showbiz in print and digital.

The Sun is looking to bring in first class reporters to join Fleet Street’s most dynamic operation.

Your role: To build the audience of The Sun by producing outstanding, engaging stories for both print and online. To bring in exclusives and original story ideas, as well as developing breaking stories.

Day to day you will:

1. Cover breaking news stories and generate agenda-leading exclusives.
2. Turn around copy quickly and accurately; mindful of IPSO and legal issues.
3. Identify news stories which will work online and in print and develop them well.
4. Work as part of a team and be able to contribute across a range of subjects.
5. Pitch and produce exclusive stories and work up original ideas and features.
6. Have an instinct for how to ‘sell’ a digital story to get maximum impact on The Sun’s platforms and also on social media.
7. Be able to write in a concise and entertaining way in keeping with Sun style.
8. Understand how to recirculate readers within The Sun and keep them engaged with our content.
9. Work with video desk and picture desk to maximum effect.
10. Interview people in a range of different circumstances.
11. Live reporting and ability to work under pressure covering breaking news.
12. Keep newsdesk informed on changes that arise as stories develop.

What we’re looking for from you:

1. Excellent writing skills with the ability to deliver vibrant, clean copy to very tight deadlines.
2. Reporting experience in a newsroom and ability to keep calm under pressure.
3. Excellent, fast writing and basic subbing skills.
4. Passion for all things news.
5. Flexible attitude to working hours across seven days.
6. An understanding of The Sun brand, both print and digital.
7. Thorough knowledge of the IPSO Code of Conduct, media law and ethical considerations.
8. Knowledge of social media, SEO and online publishing.
9. Positive can-do attitude and good team player.
