We are recruiting for two Cartographic Editor positions. In this cartographic role at Collins, you’ll update the nationwide A–Z street maps and atlases. As one of nine in‑house geographers, GIS experts and cartographers, you’ll ensure that our street‑level data, used and trusted by the public and government, is accurate and up to date. The role involves developing tools and processes to manage and productise cartographic content for print and digital. You’ll work with the team to evaluate practical applications of AI to speed up and improve map maintenance and update workflows.
Key tasks and accountabilities:
- Manage the process of updating A‑Z street atlases and maps.
- Identify and research geographical change in Britain that has an impact on A‑Z Maps.
- Review communications from councils and other government bodies to identify relevant changes.
- Compile detailed editorial instructions for cartographers to carry out relevant updates to the mapping.
- Maintain indexes so they are in line with the updated mapping.
- Use AI tools to automate repetitive tasks (assessing governance/copyright) and recommend workflow/product improvements while keeping stakeholders informed.
Skills required:
- Keen interest in geography and a passion for creating authoritative digital geographic content that accurately reflects the world we live in today.
- Strong team player who delivers results through effective collaborative working.
- A logical thinker with ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
- Good decision making and project management skills.
- Knowledge of Windows and Word, Excel and GIS packages.
- Basic understanding of DTP environment mainly Illustrator and Photoshop.
