Front-End Designer / Developer for Visual Storytelling – News Corp
We are seeking a creative and technically skilled Front-End Designer / Developer to join our newsroom. The role involves collaborating on investigative, data-driven, and multimedia storytelling projects, aiming to craft innovative digital experiences that enhance journalism impact and push technical boundaries.
This position is ideal for someone who can think like a designer, code like a developer, and tell stories like a journalist. You will work with reporters, data analysts, developers, and designers to translate investigative work into engaging digital narratives, including scrollytelling features and data visualizations.
Responsibilities
- Build and design custom editorial features and interactive articles.
- Collaborate with journalists, editors, designers, and developers to create compelling digital experiences.
- Develop animated graphics using AI2HTML.
- Integrate animation, data visualization, and multimedia into layouts.
- Prototype and iterate designs based on editorial feedback.
- Optimize features for performance, accessibility, and deadlines.
- Participate in discussions about innovative visual presentation of complex information.
Qualifications
- Experience in front-end development, visual journalism, or interaction design.
- Familiarity with animation or storytelling libraries (e.g., Shorthand, GSAP, Lottie, Scrollama).
- Strong sense of design, layout, and visual hierarchy, especially in journalism.
- Experience in a newsroom or editorial context is valued.
- Knowledge of accessibility standards and web performance optimization.
- Proficiency with design tools like Figma, Illustrator, Photoshop.
- Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and collaborative workflows.
- Keeping up with latest trends in design and front-end development.
- Passion for journalism and visual storytelling.
- Ability to work under deadlines and adapt to fast-changing needs.
